Penny Sweasey

Role: Head of Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching

Institution: Manchester Metropolitan University

Key areas of expertise:

I head up a Centre that comprises nine academic members and five others in a variety of creative and supporting roles – so we are large but have a diverse portfolio. My areas of expertise encompass:
– developing pedagogic strategy and principles, with a focus on inclusive and engaging curriculum development;
– academic CPD – both PGCert in LTHE and a range of highly flexible routes to recognition;
– and working at a strategic level with academics who lead the teaching and learning agenda in their faculties.

Ihave been part of the Trailblazer group developing the Academic Professional Standard, am an experienced external reviewer and panel assessor.

Research interests:

I am currently researching the academic leadership role and the inherent tensions between academic integrity and the need to demonstrate impact at a departmental or institutional level.

I am particularly interested in academic transitions – for students and staff, across the range of learning and career contexts.
