Matthew Williamson

Role: Director, Learning Enhancement and Academic Development Service (LEADS)

Institution: University of Glasgow

Key areas of expertise:

I am currently co-chair of HEDG.

I have been an external examiner at University College London and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and am currently external examiner for the MA in Academic Practice at City University of London and External Assessor for the HEA-accredited APEX scheme at Brunel University, London.

I was recognised as a Principal Fellow of the HEA in 2016.

I am interested in curriculum design, development of early career teachers, defining and describing excellence in teaching and issues around assessment and feedback.

Research interests:

I have carried out research into transitions into higher education and student perceptions of excellence in teaching. I tend to favour more quantitative methods of research, as well as content and narrative analysis (using keyword in context techniques).

I am about to start some research using multidimensional scaling and cluster analysis looking at staff and student perceptions of teaching and learning.
